Unit 5: ISU โ€” Diagnostic / Proposal

Assessment FOR Learning ยท Project plan ยท Cross-Strand
Not Graded โ€” Teacher Feedback Only
Purpose: Plan the ISU before you begin. This proposal lets your teacher give descriptive feedback on text choice, thesis viability, source plan, and timeline before you commit several weeks to a project.
Question 1 Text Selection
[3 marks]
Identify the novel you propose to study (title, author, year of publication). Briefly justify why this novel meets the standard of "literary merit" for ISU.
Question 2 Initial Thesis
[4 marks]
Draft a working thesis (one sentence). Then break it into 3โ€“5 sub-claims that you anticipate becoming body sections.
Question 3 Evidence Plan
[3 marks]
Identify three concrete passages, scenes, or motifs from your novel that you anticipate using as evidence. (Page numbers if possible.)
Question 4 Secondary Sources
[3 marks]
Identify two scholarly secondary sources you intend to consult (peer-reviewed article, scholarly book chapter, or critical introduction). Provide a sentence on why each will be useful.
Question 5 Timeline
[3 marks]
Sketch your timeline for the next 4 weeks: when will you finish reading, when will you finish research, when will you draft, when will you revise? Identify one risk to your timeline (e.g., other deadlines).
Question 6 Reflection
[ungraded]
What is your biggest concern about completing the ISU? What support would help?
